Police have confirmed that a Kiryas Joel man drowned in Miami Tuesday morning.
Chaim Parnes and a friend from Brooklyn drowned at the Haulover Beach in North Miami. The other victim has been identified as Yitzchak Rosenberg, owner of Certified Lumber in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.
The men were part of a group of four who were dragged into the water by a large riptide.
Police say the men were pulled from the ocean by lifeguards and first responders and brought to shore where CPR was performed.
There were signs warning of the dangerous riptides, but it appears the men were swimming near a secluded spot of the beach.
News 12 is told that both men have been flown back to New York for burial.
Parnes was a diamond dealer in Brooklyn. In 2015, he made headlines in Miami when he was robbed of $35,000 worth of merchandise and pistol-whipped.
