Yonkers police are investigating a burglary at a family-owned business.
It happened early Monday at La Hacienda Meat and Grocery Market on Central Park Avenue in Yonkers.
"It's heartbreaking. It's a lot of work for someone to just come in and take it," says Tanyi Arriaga, who owns La Hacienda Meat and Grocery Market with her family.
The owners of the business tell News 12 that someone broke through the front glass doors, stole a safe and pried open cash registers, taking off with money.
The family says it happened within minutes.
"Thankfully, no one was injured. No one was in the store," Arriaga tells News 12.
The exact amount taken is still being figured out, but the family says they know it's enough to really impact them.
"This all to somebody might not seem like a big deal. For us, it's huge because we're a family-owned business, we all chip in here," Arriaga explains.
Detectives are actively investigating, according to Yonkers police.
The business has been around for several years and has become a beloved part of the community. It was the product of a long-time dream.
"Trying to figure out the next step is probably going to be the toughest part. Right now, it's clean up, try to figure out, can we open? How soon?" says Arriaga.
