The summer may be winding down, but police in Westchester and Hudson Valley are not letting up on drunk drivers.
Officials say drunk driving fatalities tend to go up toward the end of summer. Law enforcement and federal transportation officials will be out in full force until Labor Day to crack down on drinking and driving. Police officials say that alcohol involvement is a big factor in many accidents and their goal is to reduce the amount of accidents and educate the public. Local law enforcement is getting help in part from an $11 million federal ad campaign entitled "Drunk Driving: Over the Limit, Under Arrest."
Local, county and state police will have more patrols as well as checkpoints to ensure drivers? sobriety.
