Police have identified the man who they say was shot and killed Thursday while playing cards in Newburgh.
The shots rang out just before 1:30 a.m. on South Lander Street and Courtney Avenue while the three men were playing cards.
Police say 67-year-old Samuel Stubbs died of his injuries and two other men, both in their 30s, were injured with gunshot wounds to their legs. The two men are expected to be OK.
A makeshift memorial was put up in front of the busy deli and laundromat where the shooting occurred, and neighbors are lighting candles to pay their respects. Many say the violence in the inner city needs to stop.
"There's children around here. It's not a good example for them. It's sad," says Jamie Melvin, of Newburgh.
Police say the victims were targets of a botched robbery.
The shooting marks the fourth homicide in Newburgh this year.
