Police say the crash that killed two young men in Yorktown over the weekend was speed-related.
Investigators say 23-year-old Jerry Nardone, of Millwood, and his passenger, 21-year-old Joe Buonagurio, of Yorktown, were speeding along Underhill Avenue at about 2 a.m. Sunday when they crashed.
According to friends, the two had left Rocky's Deli in Millwood and crashed about 6 miles away from there. Skid marks at the scene show where Nardone lost control of his car and went off the road, plowing through a guardrail. The car then burst into flames.
Friends and family members created a memorial with flowers and pictures at the scene. Buonagurio was about to graduate from college next month with a degree in mechanical engineering and Nardone, who was recently diagnosed with cancer, is described by family members as a young man full of life who loved baseball and his car.
"They were two innocent kids that seemed to get along with everyone,? says friend Paul Perrotta. ?It's a real tragedy that it happened. They will be missed by a lot of people."
