An elderly woman died in a hit-and-run crash in Yonkers.

News 12 is told that the accident happened Thursday evening on Yonkers Avenue at the Oak Street intersection.

Police say 77-year-old Po Yol Han was crossing the street when a pickup truck that was traveling westbound hit her, stopped for several minutes, then fled the scene.

Police found the unresponsive woman lying down in the street at around 5:20 p.m. They say she appeared to be in cardiac arrest and had suffered severe bodily injuries.

First responders began trying to resuscitate her, then took her to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead.

"I immediately jumped out, stopped the traffic, ran across and saw that it was a lady laying in the street,” says a woman who was driving past the scene in at the time of the incident. “I tried to assist her, tried to get her clothes cut off her, tried to turn her over to see if she was alright but she was not moving. She did not have a pulse.”

Hours after the hit-and-run, police found an unoccupied vehicle of interest parked less than a mile away.

Police say they are still looking for the person responsible for striking the elderly victim.

The police have yet to make any arrests.
