A recent college graduate drank himself to death at a party thrown for him by his parents Saturday night, police say.
Edward Trapasso, Jr., 23, graduated from Loyola College in the spring and then took a summer session class. He then traveled to Europe, and just recently returned home.
Trapasso?s parents threw their son a backyard graduation party at their house on Columbus Avenue, attended by Trapasso?s friends. Witnesses say Trapasso spent the night drinking beer and vodka. When it was clear that he was intoxicated, a few of his friends helped him upstairs and put him in his bed. When they went to check on him an hour later, he was on the floor and he was no longer breathing.
Tarpasso?s friends called 911, and the party ended as the guest of honor was rushed to the hospital in an ambulance early Sunday morning. He died a few hours later.
?When you drink, you?ve got to drink responsibly,? Lt. Robert Miliambro, of the Mount Pleasant Police Department, says. ?Horrible things can happen [if you?re not careful].? Authorities say the death was alcohol-related, but no foul play was involved. There were no games played at the party and no underage drinking took place.
Family gathered at the Trapasso house to mourn the loss of the recent grad. Neighbors say they are sorry for the family?s loss.
The Westchester Medical Examiner conducted an autopsy Monday. The results have not been released yet, but the cause of death is expected to be alcohol poisoning.
