A police chase out of New Jersey Saturday night ended with at least one person seriously hurt in a crash in Rockland County.
The crash happened around 9 p.m. on Route 340 near the corner of Oak Tree Road in Orangetown.
The details on what sparked the chase are still not clear. Officials have confirmed it started in Bergen County, New Jersey.
A large stretch of the roadway was briefly shut down as investigators tried to piece together what happened.
People living near where the chase ended in Orangetown tell News 12 the crash sounded like an explosion.
"It was really loud. It went right through the intersection very fast and then within a couple seconds, slammed into this area over here and within 30 seconds, cop cars were right behind it," says Orangetown Resident, Jason Gaines.
Gaines says this neighborhood is typically very quiet.
"We never see cops, it's a very rural and quiet suburb of New York City," says Gaines.
It was not immediately clear how many people were involved or if any arrests have been made.
Officials say one person inside the car was briefly trapped and had to be rescued. They were taken to Westchester Medical Center with serious injuries.
Police told News 12 there is no threat to the public.
