Police have arrested two men in connection with the murder of a Westchester Philharmonic violinist.
The suspects, 30-year-old Charles Sanford and 43-year-old Jonathan Conklin, were in Buffalo court Monday facing federal and state charges in the murder of 61-year-old Mary Whitaker.
Whitaker, an accomplished violinist at the Westchester Philharmonic and on Broadway, was found dead Wednesday in her summer home in Westfield, just south of Buffalo.
Police say they traced the suspects after one of them allegedly used her credit cards in Erie, Pennsylvania.
Authorities believe the violinist had been targeted because her home is so isolated.
Whitaker was shot in the head and leg during the robbery and was later found dead in her garage. Her car had been stolen.
Conklin, who was already wanted for larceny, and Sanford face charges of theft, carjacking and using a firearm.
A judge ordered the two men to be held without bail.
