The "bicycle bandit" accused of robbing more than a dozen gas station has been arrested.
After a two-month crime spree which spanned four counties, federal officials say 34 year-old Bernard Kilkenny, of Wappinger, was arrested Wednesday evening. Investigators say Kilkenny held up 15 Hudson Valley gas stations since the end of October.
Investigators say the Dutchess man robbed seven gas stations in Westchester County. They say four of them were robbed within a time span of four hours.
Police say in each robbery, the suspect used a handgun and fled the scene on a bicycle. In one instance, the suspect was seen driving away in a red pickup truck.
According to police, Kilkenny was pulled over Wednesday night due to an alleged vehicle violation. That's when they noticed his BMX bike in the back of his red Ford pickup truck. Reports say police also found a black BB gun in the truck.
Kilkenny is facing federal charges because all of the stores hit sold goods that had traveled in interstate commerce.
