A New Rochelle man has been charged in the shooting death of an Iona College freshman this weekend, according to police.
Police say Stivenson Desir, 19, has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of 19-year-old student Brandon Lawrence, of Yonkers.
Investigators say the men were acquaintances and that they were out with a group of friends partying late into the night when Lawrence had an altercation with one of the teens.
Police say they went to Lincoln Park to fight. Desir, who was not involved in the fight, pulled out a gun and killed Lawrence, according to police.
Lawrence was found lying on the baseball field in Lincoln Park early Sunday morning. Officers immediately began administering first aid, but he died shortly after.
Desir is currently being held at Westchester County Jail.
