A U.S. Army sergeant has been charged with murder in connection to the fatal New Years Day shooting of a Plattekill resident.
Authorities say a local sanitation worker found Daniel Spotards, a 41-year-old father of two, dead with multiple bullet wounds at the end of his driveway on Campbell Drive Extension.
Police apprehended Newburgh resident Junando Dawkins, 29, at Fort Bragg as he was about to be deployed overseas.
Officials say Dawkins is currently in Ulster County Jail and faces 25 years to life if convicted.
