yesterdayThe NYPD is investigating a serious crash that left seven people hurt in Midtown Manhattan. Police say a woman from Somerset County is to blame when she drove through a red light at the intersection of West 36th Street near Sixth Avenue.
The 29-year-old driver’s name was not released, but News 12 New Jersey has learned she is from the Belle Mead section of Montgomery Township. The NYPD says that the crash does not appear to be deliberate or terror-related.
The victims were six men and one woman.
“EMS responded and transported one female and four males to NYC Health and Hospitals/Bellevue in stable condition. A 32-year-old male was transported by EMS to New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center in stable condition. A 30-year-old male refused medical attention at the scene,” NYPD officials wrote in a statement.
Police sources tell News 12 that the woman told authorities that she prayed to God and closed her eyes as she ran the red light. She did not stop after the crash, according to the police.
Authorities say that the woman got into another crash involving three vehicles on the Long Island Expressway.
The woman is reportedly undergoing a mental evaluation. Charges against her are pending.
