Police say three people were killed when a small plane crashed on a Long Island street Tuesday afternoon.
Officials say the Beechcraft V35B aircraft went down in Syosset around 3:45 p.m. All three of the deceased -- two men and a woman -- were on board the plane. There are no reports of injuries on the ground.
The Federal Aviation Administration adds that the plane was heading to Robertson Field in Plainville, Connecticut, from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Officials say the pilot reported problems with the plane's instrument panel shortly before the crash.
Witnesses say they heard a loud boom, and then saw pieces of debris falling from the sky. National Transportation Safety Board officials say the plane broke up in the sky and left a two-mile debris field on the ground.
The FAA says it will be handling the investigation into the crash, while the National Transportation Safety Board will work to determine the cause.
