Police: 1 dead, 1 injured following crash in Philipstown

According to the Putnam County Sheriff's Office, a driver in the northbound lane crossed the yellow line and hit a car in the southbound lane.

One person has died and a child has been hospitalized after a suspected drunk crash.

The crash happened last night just before 10 p.m. on Route 9 near Stone Ridge Road in Philipstown.

According to the Putnam County Sheriff's Office, a driver in the northbound lane crossed the yellow line and hit a car in the southbound lane.

The driver of the southbound car was killed.

A 7-year-old child in that southbound car was taken to Westchester Medical Center with unknown injuries.

The northbound driver was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated.

Route 9 was closed for several hours but has since reopened.

The crash is under investigation by the sheriff's office and the Putnam County district attorney's office.
