Pleasantville’s Jacob Burns Film Center reopens for the first time since last March

The Jacob Burns Film Center reopened Wednesday for the first time in more than a year.
The nonprofit organization has been closed since March 2020, by surviving partly on virtual screening sales. Officials also say donations from loyal customers helped keep them afloat.
“A lot is available at home on your TV set, but there’s nothing like coming into a theater and…people you don’t know and seeing the big screen, and seeing the stories that can be told only in that way,” says interim Executive Director Jacob Burns.
The well-known film center was slated to reopen on April 30, but became delayed after a positive COVID-19 case.
With the extra safety precautions in place, film center officials say each of their theaters is open at nearly half capacity.
There were a few screenings available for Wednesday night, with tickets available for purchase at the outdoor box office window.
