An Eagle Scout saw his dream realized Sunday when a plaque was dedicated in Nanuet to a fallen soldier who was killed in Iraq over a grudge.
While working his way to the rank of Eagle Scout, Edwyn Macelus says he was moved by the death of Army Captain Phillip Esposito. Macelus wanted to honor Esposito, who was a former Boy Scout. A plaque bearing the Suffern native?s name now graces Tennyson Park in Nanuet. Esposito?s family looked on with pride during the dedication.
Esposito and a fellow soldier were killed by a grenade that was thrown into their room in June 2005. Staff Sergeant Alberto Martinez is expected to stand trial next year for the crime. Martinez could face the death penalty if he?s found guilty.
