Plane makes emergency landing in Quinnipiac River; nearby boaters rescue two people and a dog

A private plane made an emergency landing Thursday afternoon in the Quinnipiac River.
New Haven officials say the plane originated in Florida, had stopped in New Jersey, and was heading to Massachusetts when the pilot brought it down in the river.
The tide was out, so the plane landed in about three feet of water.
Nearby boaters saw what was going on and were able to get the couple and their pet out safely.
The cause of the emergency landing is under investigation.
