Tilly’s Foster Farm is 300 acres preserved by Putnam County. “This was a 19th-century dairy farm. The farm has an array of animals from horses to chickens to llamas,” says Rachael Paradise, of Putnam County Tourism.
It is a great family friendly spot with space for anyone to roam and just soak up the sun or a cute date idea. “Tilly’s Farm is special because you don’t expect it to be here…It’s open every day. It’s free to come visit the animals, so it’s not something you have to plan weeks ahead, you just get in your car and come!” says Paradise.
For the more outdoorsy at heart, there are two hiking trails - a longer one and a short one, if you’ve got kids in tow. You can also bring your own fishing equipment because there’s a fully stocked pond where you can catch and release fish and frogs. “During COVID, it was tough. People couldn’t really go anywhere. And a place like Tilly’s Foster actually allowed people to go outside,” say Paradise.
There is plenty of good food to go along too. “Even if you’re not into farm animals, you can always come and eat at Tilly’s Table. During the growing season, a lot of the vegetables that are grown on the farm here are served at the restaurant,” adds Paradise.
