Former Westchester District Attorney Jeanine Pirro is facing more serious legal trouble as a federal investigation expands to include her finances.
Federal prosecutors are investigating a jewelry-designing business Pirro ran while she was in office. Dozens of people have been subpoenaed to testify, including judges and assistant district attorneys. Pirro?s attorney says the jewelry business operated to raise money for charity and paid all sales tax. Michael Edelman, a longtime Pirro family friend, said Pirro authorized him to speak publicly for her. Edelman says Pirro had done nothing wrong and questioned the probe by U.S. Attorney Michael Garcia.
Pirro is still under a federal investigation concerning allegations she tried to illegally wiretap her husband?s boat to find out if he was having an affair. Garcia?s office will not comment on the ongoing investigation.
