A 14-year-old student has been charged following a violent incident inside a Circleville Middle School classroom on Tuesday, according to police and school officials.
Authorities say a 13-year-old boy was struck multiple times in the face during the altercation and was transported to Garnet Health Medical Center for evaluation. The Town of Wallkill Police Department is investigating and would not confirm the extent of the student’s injuries.
Police say the 14-year-old was arrested and charged with assault in the third degree, a misdemeanor. The teen was processed and released with an appearance ticket to appear before Orange County Probation on October 28 at 10 a.m.
In a letter to families, the Pine Bush Central School District said the situation was “immediately contained by staff.” Administrators described the incident as “concerning,” but said it does not reflect the values or character of the school community.
The district says it’s working to prevent similar incidents in the future and is providing emotional support for students and staff.
