A Rockland man is facing charges in connection with a watercraft crash in Florida.
Police say 48-year-old Daniel Patrick Grubert from Piermont was riding a rented Jet Ski in Madeira Beach, near St. Petersburg, on Sunday when he began racing someone on the water.
He allegedly wasn't looking ahead, turned around, and saw another watercraft in the way. The operator of that Jet Ski and two children were thrown into the water by the crash.
One child suffered life-threatening injuries while the other was also hurt, but not severely.
The operator was uninjured, and Grubert jumped off before the crash.
He's charged with boating under the influence causing serious bodily harm and reckless vessel operation.
