The Rockland County waterfront village of Piermont, located along the scenic Hudson River, was left in a state of emergency two years ago as a result of Superstorm Sandy.
Two years later, some of the businesses are still rebuilding.
Fara Abramson's boutique was shut down for three weeks as a result of the storm. Her store is now restocked, the foundation has been lifted and the electricity was rewired to a higher floor.
"We're getting wiser for the future, we'll see what will happen," she says.
At Cornetta's Restaurant and Marina on Piermont Avenue, more than 40 boats were lost, power went out for more than a week, and the main dining area flooded.
The restaurant has been rebuilt, lifted 7 feet and new windows have been installed, but the parking lot is still not full.
Many say the sense of community helped people bounce back, and two years later, despite the struggle, Piermont's resiliency continues to shine.
