A traffic alert is in effect after a pickup truck slammed into some storefronts in Larchmont overnight Monday.
Police say a red Ford F-150 jumped the curb and knocked down a tree and a park bench before crashing into the windows of the Beauty Bar Lounge and Ellie Travel Group on Palmer Avenue around 12:30 a.m. The business next door, Write On! A Paper Studio, may also be damaged.
The driver, whose name has not been released, only suffered minor injuries. He was able to get himself out of the truck and was taken to Westchester Medical Center to get checked out. Police say the man is a resident and had already been discharged.
Investigators say drugs and alcohol did not play a factor in the crash.
One of the store owners says it could have been a lot worse. “Nobody was killed and nobody was hurt badly. All you can do is laugh. You just can't explain it,” says Elli Travel Group owner Juan Fernandez.
Fernandez estimates it may take six months before they they can reopen their business.
The truck has not been removed yet as authorities are waiting for engineers to determine the extent of the damage to the building.
The westbound lanes of Palmer Avenue are shut down, and police are urging drivers to avoid the area.
