November is diabetes awareness month, and people are being urged to get screened.
Diabetes affects one in 10 New Yorkers, and the Bronx has among the highest number of diabetes patients. Doctors estimate about 28 percent of people who have the illness have not been diagnosed.
Medical professionals say the illness can result in blindness or amputation if left untreated.
News 12 spoke with health care professionals Wednesday at St. Barnabas Hospital to learn more about the chronic disease.
