A Phillipsburg police
officer shot in the leg while responding to a domestic incident was released from St. Luke’s Hospital in Bethlehem,
Pennsylvania earlier Sunday morning.
“The entire Phillipsburg
community and surrounding communities wish [him] a speedy recovery and prayers
to him and his family,” said Phillipsburg Mayor Todd M. Tersigni.
The
shooting occurred at 10 Hanover St. around 1:15 p.m. Saturday.
Warren County Prosecutor James Pfeiffer says the suspect opened
fire on police as soon as they arrived at the scene. The bullet “went through
the driver-side door and struck him in the leg.”
A woman, who had not been identified,
was shot in the torso. Both the woman and the officer were airlifted to St.
Luke’s Hospital.
Pfeiffer said it
is believed the suspect died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Authorities had not released
any names pending family notification. The Warren County Prosecutor’s Office
is continuing to investigate the incident.
