Veterans and active soldiers from all over the country joined local politicians Friday for the grand opening of the Purple Heart Hall of Honor in New Windsor.
The national museum is the only one of its kind dedicated solely to the 1.7 million Purple Heart medal recipients in the U.S. The 7,500 square-foot facility will have exhibits, videotaped interviews with veterans, historical photos, documentary film footage and an interactive computer program detailing stories called the ?roll of honor.?
Major General Joseph J. Toluto believes the museum will serve as support to the troops currently overseas. Veterans are glad the hundreds of thousands of soldiers who proved their courage and bravery in the line of duty will get permanent recognition.
