A Westchester woman is desperately searching to recover some precious mementos that were stolen when thieves rummaged through a dozen cars in Pelham Manor Thursday evening.
Carla Caccavale says three mini replica police badges were stolen from her car. Among the missing is a replica of her father’s badge. The others are badges that were gifted to Caccavale's sons.
Caccavale’s father, NYPD Detective George Caccavale, was killed in the line of duty trying to stop an armed robbery when she was 20 days old.
She says because she doesn’t have any real memories of her father, the mini badges mean a tremendous amount to her.
Caccavale said the NYPD will replace all the shields, but she isn’t satisfied with getting new ones.
"Someone who is beneath the law has these badges, and they just don't deserve to carry these badges,” she says.
