The village of Pelham Manor has hired a private lawyer to investigate whether its police chief sent out racist emails to colleagues.
Police Chief Alfred Mosiello has served on the force for more than three decades.
The village-hired lawyer is being asked to report his findings back to the mayor and trustees.
The investigation apparently started following complaints from a former police officer.
Residents say Mosiello should lose his job if the allegations are confirmed to be true.
Mosiello's son is a village police officer. Mosiello's brother is a former Yonkers assemblyman.
News 12 is told that Mosiello has been out on medical leave since last Tuesday and that a lieutenant is temporarily in charge.
The investigation is expected to wrap up in a few weeks.
