The newly elected mayor of Pelham is ready to get to work as she takes over in the wake of the email scandal that rocked the police department.
Republican Jennifer Monachino Lapey defeated Democrat Neal Schwarzfeld by a vote of 837-528. Lapey says she looks forward to working with residents and everyone on the Pelham Manor board. She says she came back to the community because she believes in it.
However, Lapey says she won't discuss the email scandal involving former Police Chief Al Mosiello. Mosiello admitted to circulating racially insulting jokes among his colleagues via email. He later resigned after 36 years on the job.
Lapey says she hopes that with leadership she can rehabilitate the reputation of Pelham Manor. One way she hopes to do that is with better communication between the mayor's office and the residents.
Lapey will be sworn into office April 6.
