A mother whose two young daughters were hit crossing the street last Thursday is asking for help to make the crosswalk safer. Susan Martin says her daughters were playing in Lepore Park just across the street from Bohlman Towers were they live, when they decided to cross back with the babysitter. Police say 26-year-old Idalise Rojas was driving the car the struck Olivia and her 5-year-old sister Karrington. Martin says Karrington is home now. Olivia suffered critical head injuries and is still at Westchester Medical Center, but she is expected to make a full recovery. Residents say drivers don?t obey the law that requires them to stop if pedestrians are in the crosswalk. Neighbors say they want to see signs posted that children are playing outside and have speed bumps to slow drivers down.
