Peekskill man claims police wrongfully attacked him during assault arrest
A Peekskill man says he was wrongfully attacked by police officers during his assault arrest late Friday night.
Police say their actions are justified.
Cellphone video captured five Peekskill police officers pinning down 39-year-old Maurice Walker outside Benefield Boulevard.
A woman, who did not want to go on camera, admits to calling police because Walker was upset she wasn't going out with him on his birthday. She says that shouldn't have led to the alleged encounter.
Peekskill Police Chief Donald Halmy says they responded to a frantic 911 call where one or more people were in danger. Chief Halmy says his officers' actions are justified because Walker had a knife on him and was resisting arrest.
Police arrested Walker and charged him with assault, menacing and criminal possession of a weapon.
Chief Halmy says this isn't Walker's first run-in with the law. In 2012, he was charged with manslaughter and criminal possession of a weapon.

Walker says he is now seeking medical care for his injuries and plans on seeking justice.
