Police say a 25-year-old Peekskill man is under arrest for sexually abusing a 9-year-old girl.

Police say Jessy DeLaPaz is an acquaintance of the victim?s family. According to police, DeLaPaz abused the girl at his Peekskill home last month. The girl reported what happened to her mother who then contacted the authorities. Police praised the girl for having the courage to tell her mother.

DeLaPaz is charged with first-degree sexual abuse and is being held without bail.
