Pedestrian killed after being struck on Route 55 in Dutchess County

A pedestrian was killed after being struck by a vehicle on State Route 55 near Gardner Hollow Road in Beekman on Thursday morning.

The woman had just exited a Dutchess County Loop bus and was crossing the roadway when she was hit by a westbound vehicle, the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Department said.

The victim was identified as 38-year-old Beekman resident Marissa Burke.

She was taken to a hospital where she was pronounced dead, authorities said.

The driver remained at the scene, and the bus was not involved in the crash, the sheriff’s department said.
