Peaceful protest held ahead of President Trump's visit to the Coast Guard Academy

Ahead of President Donald Trump's commencement address at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy Wednesday, a group of protesters participated in a nonviolent, non-confrontational protest at McKinley Park in New London.
Among the chants heard were "Go home Trump."
The protest was organized by a coalition of more than 14 organizations. Those in attendance say they are defending democracy and civil rights. Many of those protesting were vocal about Trump and his policies, including the war in the Middle East.
"I think think is bad. I don't think war is ever good and I think he's using that as distraction," said Denise Thomson, of Groton.
Protesters say they want to remind the graduates to remember their oaths as officers and their duty to the constitution by refusing unconstitutional orders.
Police said while the park was opened to the public, there were several parking restrictions in the area. People were also not allowed to gather near the main gate of the academy.
Wednesday marked the second time President Trump delivered the keynote address. The first time was in 2017.
