A group home in Yonkers now looks and feels much more like home for those who live there.

Richmond Community Services on Cook Avenue celebrated its grand reopening Tuesday after it was closed for two years for renovations.

Paca Lipozac, the CEO of Richmond Community Services, says they closed their doors in April 2017 and decided to drop the number of patients they house from 12 to seven, to fall in line with federal regulations.

Now, all seven patients have their own bedroom. To really make it feel like home, they were able to design every inch, from top to bottom.

"They picked their own wall colors and furnishings and everything else," says Lipozac. "You and I have an opportunity to make our home and decorate our home whichever way we want, and people with disabilities deserve the same right."

The group home also installed new technology to assist the staff, like ceiling tracks that will help lift people with physical disabilities.

Lipovac hopes their new, customized space will put smiles on patients' faces and allow them to live fulfilling lives.
