Governor George Pataki (R-NY) started to resume a normal diet in a Manhattan hospital Friday after undergoing a second surgery.

Pataki was first admitted to Hudson Valley Hospital Center to have his appendix removed. After a routine transfer to New York Presbyterian Columbia University Medical Center, doctors performed surgery on the governor?s intestines to correct a rare post-operative complication that delayed his release by nearly a week.

The 60-year-old governor is on broth and liquids, according to his spokesperson. He adds that Pataki was in good spirits, walking around and conducting business. A date for his release has not yet been set.
