Park Slope Barnes & Noble workers sign first union contract in bookstore’s history
The new three-year agreement includes increased wages, work safety plans, health care coverage and even the guarantee of stools in stores for workers to sit when needed.

The Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union (RWDSU) announced the ratification of the first ever-union contracts at the Park Slope’s Barnes & Noble— along with two other New York City locations.
The new three-year agreement includes increased wages, work safety plans, health care coverage and even the guarantee of stools in stores for workers to sit when needed.
Brooklyn booksellers News 12 spoke with said it marks a significant change for the industry.
“The book industry in general never had something like this,” said Sydul Akhanji, a B&N employee. “I’m just excited to have raised the standards for the entire industry. I’m excited to keep going to work and feeling more proud about it.”
