A mother and father are mourning the loss of their son who was gunned down Sunday just yards from their Greenburgh apartment.
Police said the homeowner at 116 Manhattan Ave. called 911 after hearing gunshots and seeing 31-year-old Kenyatta Parks lying in a pool of blood in his driveway. Authorities said the gunman sped off.
"I'm traumatized," said homeowner Craig Williams. "I didn't think something like this could happen so close to my home."
Parks was shot in the head just 100 yards from his parents' home. Whamon and Silvia Pedrow said they heard two gunshots around 1:30 a.m. after their son left from visiting their apartment.
"We sat up here and heard our son being murdered," Whamon said. "What did he do so bad that they had to take his life?" Silvia said.
According to the victim's father, his son may have been gunned down over an earlier dispute. While Parks did have a criminal record, his parents maintain he got his life back on track and was keeping off the streets. He also leaves behind a 2-year-old.
Parks' mother, who recently had open-heart surgery, said she just wants justice now.
"I don't care what it takes, when they do find him - I don't care how sick I am - I'm going to make it to that courthouse and make sure he gets what's due to him because he took my baby."
Police say they do have "people of interest" they would like to question, but the shooter remains on the loose. Anyone with information about the crime is asked to call the Greenburgh Police Department at 914-682-5325.
