Some parents in the East Ramapo School District are concerned about a plan to change the grade levels at one of the elementary schools.

The Hempstead Elementary School in Spring Valley currently houses grades 1-6, but in the fall it will only consist of grades 1-4. That means 80 students will be moving to another school and some parents are not happy.

Parents are worried about how their kids will handle the change. One mom says her kid had a great support system at the school so it's going to be tough to move.

School officials also plan to bring in nearly two dozen members of the Yiddish-speaking special education community. That move has parents claiming that there is a lot of unfairness going on.

However, school officials say parents should not be concerned. They say students, no matter what their religious backgrounds are, will be much better off. The East Ramapo assistant superintendent says it's a win-win for everyone. She says the older kids will be among their peers at an intermediate school and the Hasidic students with special needs will be in a school that already has the programs in place.
