Parents and teachers at Boerum Hill School for International Studies are calling for better use of space in the building, urging the charter school that shares space to give up five empty classrooms.

The group showed up at an education policy meeting on Wednesday night, where they expressed frustration over the overcrowded conditions in the school.

The five classrooms belong to Success Academy but the other schools in the building say they could make better use of the space.

A 12th grade teacher says the five classrooms have been unused for at least six years, and with rising enrollment, the situation is becoming more difficult.

Teachers also say the school is unsure how to amend the building utilization plan, but they are determined to make that happen.

Success Academy tells News 12 that the Department of Education determines the allocation of space in the building and should adjust it to reflect changes in enrollment.

News 12 has reached out to the DOE for further comment and has not heard back.
