Paramedics from Empress Ambulance in Yonkers have been participating in a training class to prepare for potential Ebola cases should the outbreak hit New York.
About 250 employees learned about new protocols to identify and possibly transport a patient with the deadly disease.
Every employee was given a kit that includes gloves, a mask, goggles and a full body suit. They have been participating in training since Monday.
"After sitting through this class, I feel more knowledgeable and prepared about Ebola in general, to take care of a potential patient if I should encounter it," said Empress EMS paramedic Tina Harbach.
Paramedics say they have not had to respond to a potential case of Ebola, but they will be ready if they do.
They say that if a potential case is determined, Empress will put together a specialized team to respond to the call.
