The Rockland County Sheriff's Office held a community gun buyback event in Suffern on Tuesday.
Officials said the event took place at the Leo Lydon Community Center and was held in partnership with the Suffern and Ramapo police departments.
Over 20 guns were collected during the event.
People could turn them in anonymously without any questions asked.
Participants received pre-paid gift cards in return for their donation.
"We're just going after the fact that these unused, unneeded, unwanted guns don't get into the hands of the wrong people," Rockland County Sheriff Louis Falco said.
