Ossining residents push for improvements on busy stretch of road

Neighbors in Ossining are fed up with the condition of a busy stretch of road.
The road at the center of it all is Route 133 between 9A and Route 100, also referred to as Somerstown Road.
"It's terrible, full of potholes," says Ossining resident Al Mendez.
Mendez has lived just down the road from there for 37 years.
"They keep doing temporary fixes, basically patching the holes over and over, but that's really not acceptable," Mendez tells News 12.
It's not just the potholes. Neighbors are also concerned about speeding and other things.
"There is significant degradation of the road, it's dropping off on the sides creating gullies," says June Boyle, who is with the Somerstown Road Action Network.
The Somerstown Road Action Network, along with other residents, met Thursday evening to discuss their concerns.
They're calling for this road to get fixed.
They have some ideas of their own.
"It is grinding down the roadbed basically and starting from scratch and really rebuilding it," Boyle explains.
Boyle and others with the organization say they're working with NYSDOT and lawmakers.
They plan to keep discussing possible improvements.
Officials with NYSDOT released the following statement to News 12:
"The safety of the traveling public is always our top priority. NYSDOT maintenance crews work aggressively to address potholes. Our engineers are in the process of developing a long term solution for pavement restoration along State Route 133."
