State Assemblywoman Sandra Galef (D-Ossining) is taking on legislation aimed to help moviegoers annoyed by loud commercials and trailers before the pictures.
Galef says she is a big moviegoer and she believes the previews are too loud and could possibly harm the hearing of patrons. She is pushing to create a state law requiring the trailers and advertisements to run at the same audio levels as the movies themselves.
"My legislation is saying that the standard that you have for movies, which is 60 to 80 decibels, should be the same standard that you have for anything in the movie theater,? said Galef.
Some patrons at the Multiplex Cinemas in Hawthorne couldn't be more pleased with Galef's proposal. Many say the volume of the trailers makes them disinterested in the content.
The bill has already been introduced in the Assembly. Galef is now working on getting a Senate sponsor, and she says she hopes the bill will be signed into law sometime in the new year.
