A pair of villages in the Hudson Valley was awarded $10 million each to improve their Main Streets.
Ossining in Westchester County and Haverstraw in Rockland found out they won the latest round of the state's Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI) on Monday.
"We were absolutely thrilled to find out that we were selected," said Ossining Village Manager Karen D'Attore.
The grants are part of the state's economic development program which transforms neighborhoods into vibrant centers for redevelopment, job creation, and housing opportunities.
"We believe these projects that have received funding will be transformational for the Village and will catapult us into the group of highly successful river villages that dot the shores of the Hudson Valley now," added Haverstraw Village Mayor Michael Kohut in a press release.
Ossining will spread its funding across six projects targeting enhanced walkability, expanded community services, and improved art spaces.
"This grant will allow us to showcase Ossining at its best," said Amy Hall, owner of Hudson Valley Books for Humanity, a new and 'pre-loved' bookstore in downtown Ossining.
Hudson Valley Books for Humanity occupies the first floor of the Olive Opera House building which is receiving $1.5 million for renovations.
