Voters approved a community preservation fund in Orangetown by a nearly 4-to-1 margin.

Orangetown Supervisor Teresa Kenny met with News 12 at the former Children's Psych Center in Orangeburg, where the town hopes to build a community center using money from the fund.

The state is currently appraising the property.

“This fund is something that we can use toward purchasing the property, and if we actually bond for the property, we can use those funds to pay off the bond,” Kenny said. “Even if it's not placed in time, it will be helpful to us in regards to us buying this property.”

Kenny anticipates the preservation fund will begin being collected in February.
