Orange County's top health official has issued a coronavirus warning ahead of the holidays in an effort to avoid reopening rollbacks and closures.

Orange County Health Commissioner Dr. Irina Gelman says the county is still reeling from new COVID-19 cases caused by Halloween super-spreader parties.

She warns continued gatherings may keep causing the county's daily infection rate, which is already at 5.8%, to go up even higher.

Gelman says it is best to keep celebrations this year among household family members only, to avoid closures that happened in the spring.

She advises residents to avoid travel and to limit or avoid social gatherings, while continuing to wear masks, wash hands and stay home when possible.

Orange County has had five COVID-19 deaths in less than two weeks, with roughly 1,000 new cases reported.
