Fans were back inside Yankee Stadium to watch an in-person game for the first time in over a year Thursday.
Those who attended the game remained socially distant with face coverings on.
Capacity was set at 20%, which is less than 10,000 fans, but they were all excited to be back.
Players, coached and staff, including manager Aaron Boone, were excited to have their fanbase back.
“It’s going to be very meaningful, I say that though, every Opening Day has been very meaningful, going back to when I was a kid going to my dad’s Opening Day,” Boone says. “This one is different obviously coming off the year we just had and all that we’ve been through as a world.”
Guests needed to provide a negative coronavirus test or proof of vaccination before going in.
The health care workers who helped vaccinate people at the stadium were recognized with seats in the Judge’s Chambers.
The Bombers lost to the Toronto Blue Jays 3-2.
