Open Door Health Center celebrated the grand opening of its newest location in Mamaroneck Thursday.

The medical center is known for offering health care to people who otherwise wouldn't be able to afford it. Many of its customers are immigrants, and roughly 50 percent of its patients are uninsured.

Officials at the medical center say there is a "sliding fee scale," which means that price range is based on a patient's income. They say that this method could serve as a model for the what the federal healthcare program should look like.

Grace Beltran says she was just five years old when she arrived from Ecuador with her family. She says she went to Open Door Health Center's Ossining location for her primary medical care.

"We needed a place to go for health care," said Beltran, who is now a staff member at the medical center. "And so Open Door pretty much answered all our healthcare needs."

The Mamaroneck location is the medical center's sixth health center in the Hudson Valley.
